Removal & Replacement of Implants Patient 20**
About This Patient
This 35 year old patient presented to Dr. Parker 5 years after the insertion of 385 cc textured PIP implants, inserted through periareolar incisions down in South America. A recent ultrasound and MRI, obtained in response to the recent warnings regarding PIP implants leaking, in fact showed leakage of the right implant. In addition, the patient requested improvement in the appearance of the lower aspect of the left breast, which appeared contracted and different from that on the right. During her Sizing Sessions, the patient elected to have 475 cc silicone implants inserted. During surgery, Dr. Parker found the right PIP implant shell disintegrated and the implant ruptured. He removed all of the shell and implant contents, cleansed the pocket and inserted a sizer implant. On the left side, the PIP implant was intact but a capsular contracture was noted along the lower aspect of the breast. He removed the implant from the left side and released the capsular contracture, then he inserted a sizer implant. With the patient sitting upright on the operating table, Dr. Parker determined optimal symmetry to be achieved by inserting a 475 cc implant on the right side and 500 cc on the left. The patient recovered quickly after surgery. She is very happy with her much more symmetric, soft implants as well as the care and thought given to her by Dr. Parker and his team.
