About This Patient

This 56 year old was referred to Dr. Parker by his wife, an existing patient of Dr. Parker’s. The patient lost 35 pounds through diet and exercise. He strained one day at the gym lifting a heavy weight and developed a protruding abdomen along with lower abdominal and back pain. Dr. Parker and his treating neurologist obtained a CT scan which showed no evidence of a hernia. Dr. Parker, the neurologist and patient discussed options and agreed that surgery to tighten his abdominal musculature was indicated. In surgery, Dr. Parker tightened the patient’s abdominal musculofascial laxity as part of a lipoabdominoplasty procedure. He also liposuctioned the patient’s flanks, removing 800 cc of fat from the right and larger side as well as 600 cc from the left side. The patient had to restrict activities for the first week after surgery but subsequently recovered well. He no longer has any abdominal or back pain, allowing him to return to vigorous workouts with his trainer. He also loves the improved appearance of his abdomen and flanks.
