About This Patient

This 57 year old presented to Dr. Parker bothered by the puffiness of her lower eyelids. During the consultation, Dr. Parker explained to the patient that this was due to herniation of the fat pads which lie beneath the eyeball putting pressure on the skin of the lower eyelids. He discussed releasing and transferring these fat pads into the “tear trough” area. That is the depression which lies just below the normal position of the fat pads. Doing this would create a better blending of the lower eyelid into the cheek. He pointed out natural blending of eyelid to cheek is seen in younger people and conveys a more youthful look to the lower eyelid. The patient was on board with the plan. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Parker performed a lower lid blepharoplasty. He transferred the lower fat pads from their herniated location into the tear trough, securing them with sutures. He then tightened the lower eyelid margin with a lateral canthopexy and removed a small amount of skin through the incision just below the eyelashes. The patient’s enjoyed a smooth recovery. At her last postop visit the patient hugged Dr. Parker and thanked him for doing such a great job.
