Few would say no to naturally long, lush eyelashes—but alas, few of us are dealt that winning genetic card. Luckily, today’s options to get longer, darker, and fuller lashes are much improved over what we had in the past—and don’t involve a single dreaded “press on.” We offer two of the most popular options here at The Parker Center: eyelash extensions and Latisse eyelash growth solution.

High-quality eyelash extensions are worth it—you can swim, cry, work out, and live your normal life without worrying about them. Latisse results are even more durable, but take time.

Both are excellent, and we have patients who swear by one or the other as their secret to lashes they love. But what’s really important is which option is right for you. While a personal consultation is the best way to find out, it can help to understand the pros and cons of each ahead of time. So let’s take a look: eyelash extensions vs. Latisse.

Eyelash Extensions: totally customizable, instant results, perfect for a special event

Eyelash extensions are made from a combination of natural and synthetic fibers, which are held to the lash line using a medical grade adhesive. Application by a specially trained makeup professional takes about one to two hours, as each extension is placed individually to blend in with your natural lashes. Your provider will help you choose the length, shape, and shade to best meet your needs. After treatment, your full results are ready instantly.

Cost varies depending on your location, the product used, and how many extensions you require, but expect between $100 and $300 for your first application with a slightly lower price for fill-ins. High-quality eyelash extensions are worth it—you can swim, cry, work out, and live your normal life without worrying about them.

What Are the Risks of Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are very safe when performed by a trained, experienced makeup artist, but there are a few considerations:

  • Make sure you get a quality product. Because cheap lash extensions look cheap.
  • They last about 4 to 8 weeks, so you’ll need to repeat treatment to maintain your results. A significant proportion of our New Jersey eyelash extension patients are getting ready for a wedding, prom, or other special event—extensions are perfect for a short term dramatic boost.
  • After they start shedding, extensions can begin to look a little uneven. You can avoid this by scheduling touch-up treatments as recommended. In addition, some people do feel irritation if artificial lashes get in the eye when they shed.

Latisse® Eyelash Growth Solution: all-natural results that last with easy daily treatment

One of the most well-known eyelash growth options, Latisse is an FDA approved topical treatment that can help natural lashes grow fuller, longer, and darker with regular use. Fun fact: Latisse was discovered by accident—it was originally used as a glaucoma treatment. Patients were reporting eyelash growth after use, and the rest is history!

For optimal results, Latisse must be applied once daily to the upper eyelids (it only takes a few seconds per lash). Most patients experience noticeable lash growth after 8 weeks of regular use, with the most dramatic improvements occurring after 16 weeks. Results can last indefinitely with daily use, which makes Latisse a great option if you prefer an at-home treatment and all-natural, easy-to-maintain results.

Are there side effects of Latisse?

Serious side effects are very rare with Latisse, but there are a few to be aware of (from most common to least):

  • Eye itching or redness
  • Dryness and irritation
  • Unexpected hair growth in other areas (such as the brows)
  • Skin darkening around the eyes
  • Irreversible eye color change (although this effect has mainly been shown to occur in patients using it as a glaucoma medication)

We hope you have a clearer idea of the similarities and differences between Latisse and eyelash extensions after reading this. Maybe you’re even leaning toward one option—in any case, we invite you to get in touch with us at Parker Center with any questions. You can call us at 201.967.1212 or contact us online for more information. See you soon!

In an Amazon Prime world, we’re used to fast delivery—and the same trend is being seen in the world of cosmetic medicine. With advancements in non-surgical technology, more and more practices are promising results comparable to surgery, without the recovery time.

Social media is also replete with plastic surgery-averse celebs touting the benefits of the “lunchtime facelift,” and patients are curious to know if their youthful looks are really achieved solely through non-surgical treatments.

Non-surgical treatments must work to improve facial tissues through mechanisms such as encouraging cell renewal, filling hollow areas, or relaxing muscles that create expression lines. A facelift literally lifts and removes excess skin.

Having had decades of experience treating patients as well as vetting new cosmetic products and technologies, Dr. Paul M. Parker and his team are here to tell you what to expect from a lunchtime facelift.

But first, we need to get an important question out of the way….

Can you get facelift results with non-surgical treatments?

While you can get visible and impressive results with minimally invasive options, they will not provide you with the same results as surgery. That’s because a facelift literally lifts and removes excess sagging skin, while non-surgical treatments must work to improve existing tissues through mechanisms such as filling hollow areas, encouraging cell renewal, or relaxing muscles that create expression lines.

Ultimately, we prefer not to compare non-surgical treatments to a facelift because they work in different ways to achieve differing goals. What can be said is that almost all patients can find a non-surgical treatment that will provide benefits for them. Whether or not a true surgical facelift will also be recommended to you depends on your degree of facial aging as well as how you want to approach aging over the years.

Facelift vs. non-surgical skin tightening

Facelift surgery is able to dramatically lift the face and take years off of your appearance by repositioning tissues and removing excess skin. The patients who get the most dramatic results with facelift surgery most often have less skin laxity, deep-set wrinkles, and sagging jowls—issues that are a common result of the natural aging process and become evident by your 50s or 60s.

Many non-surgical treatments trigger you body’s healing processes to renew cells and improve the skin’s appearance.

Because facelift surgery involves a physical lifting of tissues that have descended due to the effects of gravity, removing extra skin in the process, non-surgical treatments simply can’t reproduce the same results. Many technologies and products instead work by improving or increasing your body’s natural collagen production to plump skin and improve overall appearance.

That being said, it’s pretty impressive what many minimally invasive procedures can do without surgery or a lengthy recovery.

There are a few different types of non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments that are commonly used as part of a “lunchtime facelift.”

  • Radiofrequency can be sent through the skin to heat deeper tissues—or delivered under the skin for more precise heating. When tissues are heated, they experience a small level of immediate contraction with gradual improvement of collagen production over time, leading to a more toned appearance. Example: INFINIskin RF microneedling.
  • Laser energy works similarly to radiofrequency in that it heats up your tissues to trigger healing. Either fractional or non-fractional wavelengths of energy are delivered through the skin to heat—but not destroy—tissues to force your skin’s restructuring process and stimulate collagen production. Example: HALO hybrid fractional laser.
  • Micro-injury, which is typically induced with microneedling/skin needling/collagen-induction therapy, triggers your body’s natural healing response by creating microscopic channels in the skin. When your body senses this micro-injury, it responds by increasing the production of collagen and elastin in the area. This results in improved firmness and texture.
  • Injectables. Sometimes referred to as a “liquid facelift,” injectables are often included in a non-surgical “facelift” plan. Fillers can provide the appearance of a lift by plumping cheeks and other areas that have become more hollow with age. Injectable neurotoxins such as BOTOX work in a different way: they relax the muscles that create expression lines. Examples: BOTOX, Dysport & Xeomin; Juvéderm, Restylane, & Belotero.

Most patients see the best results when different modalities are combined, such as scheduling a laser treatment a few weeks after you’ve had BOTOX or fillers for wrinkles, or even using a non-surgical skin treatment to enhance surgical results.

Whether you call it a “lunchtime facelift” or non-surgical facial rejuvenation, we’ll help you get a refreshed, more youthful look

Trendy treatment names are fun, but it’s far more important to understand what technologies really work—and get fantastic results. Over our many years in practice, we’ve found that the best way to help our patients look gorgeous is to customize their treatment (rather than rely on the latest one-size-fits-all plan).

When you come in for your free cosmetic consultation, Dr. Parker or one of our highly trained skin experts will begin by listening. We’ll want to know about your primary concerns, what you hope to achieve, and any worries or limitations you may have. Armed with this information, we’ll recommend a treatment plan that best meets your needs while delivering results.

Non-surgical treatments are a great option if any of the following applies to you:

  • Signs of aging are beginning to set in
  • You want to slow the aging process down
  • You don’t expect unrealistic changes
  • The improvements you hope to see don’t require surgery to achieve
  • You lead a busy life and are unable to take time off for recovery
  • You don’t feel like you can justify the cost of surgery right now

We are consistently impressed with the results we achieve for our patients with our non-surgical options—and, in fact, many of us take advantage of these treatments ourselves! And while we can’t make you look like you just had a full facelift after an hour-long treatment, we’re confident we can help you feel great and look fabulous when you leave our offices. Contact us today to learn more or schedule your complimentary consult.

Kathie Lee Gifford of the Today Show recently learned firsthand how great INIFINI is when she had her lower face and neck treated.

The INFINI difference

As Kathie Lee found out, INFINI offers noticeable results without the discomfort or downtime of other tightening and lifting procedures. Its unique method of delivering radiofrequency energy via micro-channels in the skin allows us to effectively and directly treat the dermis, helping reduce skin flaws and improve skin firmness by inducing increased collagen production.

One thing we love about our jobs is that we get to help so many different kinds of patients. So we get especially excited when a treatment proves to be so versatile and so effective that we find ourselves recommending it to patients of all ages and skin types for a huge range of concerns and treatment goals.

We’ve been performing micro-needling at the Parker Center for 2+ years—it’s quickly become a favorite to improve anything from fine lines and hyperpigmentation to stretch marks, hair loss and scars.

Micro-needling is a prime example: this innovative skin resurfacing procedure uses dozens of tiny, uber-thin needles to minimize flaws and help skin glow. We’ve been using our micro-needling device, the COSMOPen, for a little over 2 years now, and it’s quickly become one of our all-time favorites. We’ve seen fantastic results with our patients who are bothered by everything from fine lines and hyperpigmentation to stretch marks and hair loss—micro-needling can even help us fade scars.

How tiny needles get big results

Micro-needling creates microscopic punctures in various layers of your skin. These “injuries” trigger skin to heal, producing new collagen and elastin in the process. Post-treatment skin is firmer, smoother, and clearer. We’ve been impressed to see that micro-needling can achieve similar results to fractional laser resurfacing without heat or chemicals.

Our patients have been very pleased with their results, not to mention the many benefits of micro-needling:

  • It doesn’t hurt. We apply numbing cream prior to treatment so you feel no pain.
  • There’s no downtime. Mild redness for the rest of the day is the only typical side effect, and you can apply makeup the very next day.
  • Most patients notice improvements in just a few days. Results only get better and better as the skin regenerates.
  • It’s safe & effective for all skin types, even dark skin. No heat and no chemicals means virtually no risk of pigmentation changes!
  • It’s easy and safe to combine with injectables, skin tightening and other non-surgical treatments for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation in one visit.
  • It’s affordable! Micro-needling gets results at a fraction of the cost of many laser resurfacing treatments.

Our secret “ingredient” that boosts micro-needling’s benefits

Being overachievers, we found a way to make micro-needling even better—during and just after treatment, we apply a rejuvenating serum to your skin, which is custom-selected to help make the specific improvements you want. The microscopic punctures essentially prime your skin, allowing serums to penetrate more deeply and work more quickly and effectively to treat acne scars, improve skin texture, minimize fine lines, and give your skin a radiant glow.

Ready to give micro-needling a try? Here’s what you can expect at the Parker Center

Micro-needling with our Parker Center Medi-Spa professionals is like getting a deluxe facial. We begin by cleansing the skin and applying numbing cream—just sit back and relax while it takes effect. The COSMOPen treatment itself is very quick—20 to 30 minutes tops. After applying serums, we finish with a soothing, 20-minute hyaluronic acid mask to maximize skin conditioning and minimize post-treatment sensitivity. While one treatment can yield improvements, we recommend 3-4 treatments spaced 2-3 weeks apart for optimal results.

If you want to improve your skin, give us a call. You have a lot of options for skincare treatments in New Jersey, and we’ve got the expertise and technology you need to get visible results. Whether you’re ready to schedule an appointment for micro-needling or have a few more questions, contact us today—Dr. Parker and our experienced skin care team will be happy to help.

Aging gracefully and maintaining a healthy appearance over the years is something many strive for, and there are a plethora of anti-aging products and treatments that can help with this goal. But did you know that your genes will also have a huge impact on how well you will age?

A recent presentation at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting highlighted the differences in facial aging between a variety of ethnic groups—and there were some key differences. Here is what the study found.

Your ethnicity plays a role in how you will age

The study looked at a sample of over 4,000 participants spanning 4 different countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and the results may surprise you.

  • People with non-white, African, or black ancestries aged at a slower rate than those with lighter skin types.
  • Darker-toned participants reported less severity in a variety of aging features, including the appearance and frequency of nasolabial folds and forehead lines.
  • Signs of aging appeared at a later age for non-white participants.

Regardless of whether you are lucky enough to have genes that help your skin age slowly, this information is helpful in choosing appropriate anti-aging medicine for your unique skin type. Knowing more about your ethnic background can help your doctor understand what issues your skin is most likely to have and assist them in recommending the right products, treatments, and preventative measures.

Working with your skin type

Just because you have dark skin doesn’t mean you’ll want to skip out on anti-aging skin care; nor are those with lighter skin all doomed to live with more wrinkles. While you can’t change your genetic makeup, there are things we should all be doing to maintain beautiful, youthful skin. Wearing quality sunscreen and working with a skin care professional top the list!

The Parker Center for Plastic Surgery and our expert Medi-Spa team specialize in exceptional skin care products and treatments that are tailored to your skin type and your specific needs. We have decades of experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds and love being able to help patients with all skin types feel better about their skin.

We start with a personalized consultation and skin evaluation using the VISIA complexion analysis system (a great tool which reveals what is going on below the surface). After gauging the condition of your skin, we will design a treatment plan just for you. Contact us to learn more!

Recently, the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery staff got a taste of their own medicine and experienced some of our cutting-edge facial treatments for themselves. Not to be left out, Dr. Parker also underwent the Parker Rejuvenation Lift procedure, a beneficial combination of skin resurfacing with the Halo™ hybrid fractional laser and Ultherapy® skin tightening.

We sat down with Dr. Parker to hear all about his experience and see his amazing results. Read on to hear for yourself just how beneficial this exciting facial rejuvenation treatment is!

Were there any specific skin concerns you were hoping treatment would help?

I think everyone has some areas of concern, whether it be a wrinkle here, some sun damage there, or a bit of extra skin that developed over time, but I was personally hoping to see improvement of fine lines and sunspots. And while I was curious to see how the Parker Rejuvenation Lift would improve my skin, my main goal was, in fact, to gain a deeper understanding of the treatment from the perspective of a patient.

As a physician, I am always recommending treatments, explaining the processes, and answering questions. To be able to do these things from a place of greater knowledge and experience is of great benefit—I wanted to feel exactly what it was like so I can tell my patients exactly what to expect.

Can you tell us about your treatment with Halo?

Around one hour prior to my procedure, a topical numbing cream was applied to ensure treatment was comfortable. My treatment with Halo lasted around half an hour and was pain-free and easy—the Halo laser is quite gentle on the skin compared to other lasers that offer comparable results.

Afterward, I experienced the same sensation as a moderate sunburn for about an hour. The sensation went away fairly quickly, though my skin was red for about 24 hours. We went to dinner with friends that night and while they didn’t mention anything at the time, they later mentioned that they simply believed me to be sunburned. Although I knew the healing process was going to be quicker than other lasers, I was pleasantly surprised that the redness did not last very long.

Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser

Day of Halo treatment

Dr. Parker immediately after treatment with Halo. Just like a day at the beach if you forgot to apply sunscreen!

I began seeing positive changes in my skin within about two weeks, including a reduction in pore size, improvement in skin tone and texture, and a smoothing of fine lines. These results continued to improve over the course of three months.

How did Ultherapy complement your results?

Because one of the biggest indicators of age is the loss of subcutaneous fat and the subsequent sagging of the skin, Ultherapy can drastically enhance skin resurfacing results. By tightening facial tissues, Ultherapy further minimizes the appearance of lines and provides a more youthful, lifted appearance.

Before & After: 3 Months

3 Months After

before                                                  after

Taking a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation reduces the risk of having “unfinished results.” Fine lines and wrinkles can detract from skin tightening or lifting—and, on the other hand, sagging or loose skin can divulge your age, even if your skin is smooth. By addressing both signs of aging, the face is fully rejuvenated and gains a brighter, more youthful appearance.

When Did You See Your Results…And Would You Do it Again?

I started to see positive changes in my skin within just a week or so, but it can take between three to six months to see your final results. Over that period of time, I noticed the quality and appearance of my skin improving gradually.

I absolutely would do it again. Being able to achieve dramatic results without the downtime or side effects of more invasive procedures is wonderful, and my skin has never looked quite so healthy. I was a fan of the Parker Rejuvenation Lift before, but now I can recommend it to my patients and show them the proof! I think most everyone can benefit from the power of these two amazing treatments.

Halo-Logo_ColorThe Halo® Hybrid Fractional Laser is an exciting new development in cosmetic laser technology. The device combines two kinds of wavelengths—one that removes damaged outer layers of skin and another that heats up the tissue without destroying it—to provide dramatic improvement without much downtime.

The Halo hybrid laser is especially effective in combating the signs of aging. It reduces fine lines, minimizes pores, and removes many skin discolorations. It also increases skin reflectivity and encourages a healthy glow.

Because Halo is so new, many people are curious about some of the ins and outs of treatment. I put together a list of Halo laser frequently asked questions and answers to help you discover how the Halo laser might help you.

When will I see results after Halo treatment?

Because each Halo treatment is customized to the patient, this may vary. Typically, most patients see the positive benefits within two to five days. This quick turnaround makes Halo a popular option for people who seek noticeable results quickly, with little downtime.

Improvements continue over time and become even more apparent after the first two to three weeks. Dermal regeneration continues even further after that, leaving skin looking refreshed for several months.

What does Halo treatment feel like?

I take several measures to make sure my patients feel comfortable during Halo treatment. A topical anesthetic combined with the device’s integrated cooling technology reduces the feeling of heat during the session.

Some patients report occasional prickling sensations, but most say the treatment is pain-free. I myself have undergone treatment and can say with authority that it’s quite comfortable!

Will Halo reduce pore size?

Halo is one of the first lasers to effectively reduce pore size. It is especially helpful for people who have larger pores due to teenage acne. Enlarged pores are a common complaint for people of all ages. Halo is effective in reducing pore size, as well as wrinkles and discoloration.

Can I combine Halo with other treatments?

Halo can be combined with both surgical procedures and other skin treatments to enhance your results. For instance, having a Halo treatment after facelift surgery can help further improve the appearance of wrinkles and provide a smoother, more youthful complexion.

I have seen beautiful results from combining Halo with non-invasive skin tightening in a treatment we offer here at the Parker Center: The Parker Rejuvenation Lift.

I recommend a waiting period between Halo and other procedures so that both treatments can be as effective as possible. I can work with you to determine the proper sequence and waiting periods for the treatments you’d like to combine.

Will I swell after treatment?

Swelling is likely in the first couple days after treatment. In fact, it’s completely normal. Swelling should recede in 2-3 days and completely subside around day six.

I recommend several techniques to help your body naturally reduce swelling, including sleeping with your head elevated, limiting salt intake immediately following the procedure, and carefully cooling the treated area.

Are there side effects?

Serious side effects from treatment with Halo are rare. Swelling is common, but usually clears completely in less than one week. Patients will see some redness and peeling at first, but skin usually recovers quickly with few long-term side effects after treatment.

What’s the first step to getting Halo?

Now that you have an overview of Halo Hybrid Fractional Lasers, let’s work together to find out if the treatment is right for you.

I offer complimentary consultations to people seeking cosmetic laser treatments in New Jersey. During our initial meeting, we can discuss the tone and texture of your skin and whether Halo laser treatment would be a good fit for you.

76314524It’s no secret that nonsurgical treatments are becoming the go-to choice for patients looking to revitalize their appearance. From BOTOX® and dermal fillers for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, to CoolSculpting® for noninvasive body contouring, people all over the world are seeking ways to look better without surgery.

We are keeping up with this growing trend, and excited to announce we have two superb new minimally-invasive facial rejuvenation treatments: Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser and INFINI skin tightening.

Rethink Laser Skin Resurfacing with Halo

Sciton® recently designed the world’s first and only hybrid fractional laser, and the Parker Center is the first practice in the Northeast to offer this revolutionary treatment. By administering both fractional and non-fractional settings, Halo is able to simultaneously treat surface issues in the epidermis and provide deeper rejuvenation in the dermis—all in a single pass of the laser.

What does this mean for you? Maximum results without the extra downtime. In just one treatment, Halo can:

  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Even out hyperpigmentation, age spots, and uneven skin texture
  • Minimize appearance of sun damage, such as sun spots and uneven skin tone
  • Improve scarring from acne, chickenpox, or keloid scars

Treatment is comfortable and downtime is minimal—you’ll be ready to greet the world with beautiful, radiant skin in almost no time at all!

Tighten & Tone with INFINI

Inifini harnesses the power of radiofrequency (RF) technology to safely and effectively lift and firm the skin from the inside out. By targeting tissue beneath the surface of the skin and directly focusing energy, Infini is able to heat the tissue for selective tightening, lifting, and increase of collagen and elastin. The result? Beautifully tightened and toned skin for up to a year.

By addressing the root cause of many visible signs of aging—fatty pockets around the jawline, decreased skin elasticity, and loss of volume in the mid-face that leads to sagging—Infini is able to address a number of concerns, including:

  • Drooping cheeks: by tightening sagging skin in the mid-face, Infini also reduces the appearance of lines and folds around the mouth and nose, providing a more youthful appearance.
  • Jowls: when skin starts to sag around the jawline due to weight fluctuations or aging, the result is lack of definition between the face and neck, and weakening of the chin. Infini is a perfect option for lifting and tightening this skin to refine your jawline.
  • Sagging lids: as folds around the eyes begin to deepen, the result is a tired or even angry appearance. By tightening skin in the brow area, Infini  can open and brighten the eyes for a refreshed look.

Infini is also a great solution for overall enhancement of the face by improving skin texture, reducing wrinkles, and reinforcing collagen.

Combing the Power of Both for Enhanced Results

While a facelift procedure is a very effective solution for lifting and tightening the skin, surgery is not an option for everyone—but nonsurgical treatments don’t typically provide comparable results. We hope to change that.

Dr. Parker has developed a one-of-a-kind treatment that combines the power of both Halo and Infini: the Parker Rejuvenation Lift. This complementary combination provides patients with beautiful results that approach the level of improvement offered by a moderate facelift—without the need for surgery. Each treatment enhances the restorative benefits of the other, helping to brighten, refine, and tighten the face for total facial rejuvenation.

iStock_000019907734LargeThe fight against lines and wrinkles has now gotten easier thanks to the release of Profusion laser skin treatments.  New Jersey residents with access to this breakthrough technology here at the Beaura Spa are reporting the same firming and anti-aging benefits as Botox, without the pain or side effects commonly associated with the procedure.

How Profusion Works

Profusion is a special tip made for the Isolaz laser, which allows for the penetration of peptides, vitamins and minerals deep into the skin for maximum firming and anti-aging benefits. Best of all, there is no pain, needles or harsh side effects associated with the procedure.

Kim Ashton, Coordinator of our Beaura Day Spa in New Jersey, further explains this process: “Imagine taking an empty plastic bottle and turning it upside down in water.  The bottle would fill instantly.  That’s basically how the vacuum aspect of Profusion works.”

Ashton continues, “When the vacuum sucks the area of the skin to be infused, the cells start to separate and move.  This enables the peptides and anti-aging products to break through the statum corneum–which generally blocks topical creams from penetrating the skin in the first place due to the closeness of the cells.   Once the stratum corneum cells are pulled apart, there is an instant pathway for the penetration these vital materials.”

Dr. Paul M. Parker, Medical Director of the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery and Beaura Spa, adds that the procedure is “Like having a suction cup applied to your face.  It actually infuses peptides into the skin to help plump out the face and reduce some of the fine wrinkling.”

Clearly, for patients unsure of,  or not quite ready for Botox due to the condition of their skin, Profusion laser treatments are a great non-invasive alternative to firm up lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead area.

Profusion offers Non-Invasive Alternative for Wrinkle Reduction

The Beaura Spa (associated with the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery), is currently the only practice offering  Profusion laser skin treatments in New Jersey or the immediate New York City area.   Acquiring this new technology is part of Dr. Parker’s commitment to provide patients with the most non-invasive alternatives for aging and other skin conditions.

“Profusion laser treatments are a promising technology in plumping and firming the skin without needles,” says Parker.  “There is real science behind this procedure and Profusion’s peptides actually penetrate the skin three times more effectively than most topical firming or anti-aging regiments on the market”.

As men age, they experience a sagging and drooping of the soft tissues of their face and neck. This normal aging can be improved by a rhytidectomy (commonly referred to as a facelift) procedure to regain their younger appearance. During this procedure, Dr Parker will elevate the descended fatty tissues beneath the cheek skin into a more youthful position. Excess skin is removed using limited incisions hidden in front of and behind the ears. The jowls are reduced, jaw line redefined and the neck re-contoured as well. All patients are operated upon in the Parker Center’s onsite, state of the art, fully certified ambulatory surgical center. One of Dr. Parker’s board certified anesthesiologists is in attendance throughout the procedure. They will administer intravenous sedation or general anesthesia after discussing these options with the patient and Dr. Parker. The procedure time varies from patient to patient and is often in the range of three to four hours.

After undergoing a facelift at the Parker Center, patients stay overnight in the facility monitored by a registered nurse to ensure safety and comfort. Patients are discharged home the following morning. Most patients experience very little pain and some do not even require pain medication. Patients are up and walking around at home, showering and performing light activities. Within a week of surgery, all stitches are removed; swelling and bruising usually subside within 10 to 14 days. Depending on the patient’s healing progress, exercise may be resumed two to three weeks after surgery.

If you are a man and thinking of having this type of performed to make you look younger, you are not alone. In 2012, more than 11,000 facelift surgeries were performed on men in the United States, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In 2012, facelifts were the sixth most common cosmetic procedure among men. Dr. Parker performs numerous male facelifts each year. Many before and after photos of our patients can be found on our website.
