One of our Parker Center breast reduction patients recently came in for a visit—6 years after her surgery with Dr. Parker. Below are photos of her before surgery, a few months after breast reduction, and 6 years later. As you can see, her breast shape hasn’t changed much at all over the years; if anything, her results look better now, as her scars have faded and are barely perceptible.

Breast Lift Surgery Creates Lasting Results

So what makes breast reduction results last? First of all, your breasts won’t just be smaller, they’ll also be lighter. All that excess breast tissue and fat will be gone, so there’s less weight stressing the skin. In addition, today’s breast reduction techniques involve using internal sutures to support your new breast shape from the inside. To be sure you benefit from the most advanced techniques, choosing an experienced, skilled plastic surgeon is a must.

Breast reduction results continue to improve during the first year or so after surgery. Of course you’ll notice a positive difference right away—breast reduction provides immediate relief from back, neck, and shoulder pain. While most post-operative swelling is gone after 2 to 4 weeks, know that it’s common for each breast to heal at a slightly different rate. Patience is key, as is following your surgeon’s instructions regarding activity and scar care. For most patients, scars have faded significantly by the end of the first year.

A few things to keep in mind: while breast reduction is considered a long-lasting way to get smaller, shapelier breasts, pregnancy or significant weight fluctuations can affect the appearance of your breasts. It’s also important to wear a supportive bra during activity, to reduce stress on breast skin that could lead to premature sagging. And of course, nothing can stop the normal aging process.

If you’re thinking about having a breast reduction, contact us! We’ll be happy to discuss your options at a with Dr. Parker. You’ll even get to see realistic 3D images of what you might look like after breast reduction—and for years to come.

Kathy, 41, is married with a 2 ½ year old son, and she had been thinking about breast reduction surgery for a few years. As an avid runner, Kathy’s large breasts were a daily inconvenience and causing her frequent back and neck pain.

“It was something I dealt with every day. Running was a problem, clothes were a problem and just feeling self-conscious all the time was wearing me down. I did a lot of research on the Internet and really liked all the information on Dr. Parker’s site,” said Kathy.

Kathy made an appointment with Dr. Parker for a consultation and never looked back. She had thought that she’d have the appointment, see a few other surgeons and think about it for a few more years. It turned out that the warm, friendly staff at the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery made Kathy feel so comfortable and secure that she opted to go ahead with the surgery right away.

Breast reduction surgery or mammoplasty is the best treatment for overly large, uncomfortable breasts. The benefits of a breast reduction surgery include pain relief, improved stability of the skeletal system, and improved lung function. Other benefits commonly noted by patients are reduced headaches and less neck, shoulder, and back pain.

“Once all my questions were answered, I really felt ready and jumped right into the process. I’m thrilled that I did. Now I can buy normal bras that actually fit, tops and dresses that I’m not pinning closed. It’s just a relief not to have to think about it ever again,” said Kathy.

Breast reduction surgery at the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes 2-4 hours depending on the amount of reduction involved. Patients go home the same day, can usually shower the following day and return to normal activities within 4-5 days. Exercise is generally permitted after 10-21 days, depending on the type of activity.

“It’s the best thing I ever did, and I’m so pleased with the results. Dr. Parker and his staff are just the nicest people. Everyone there was so helpful and really went out of their way for me. I’d recommend Dr. Parker to anyone who’s even thinking about a breast reduction surgery. It looks and feels great. I never have to feel self-conscious or worry that people are staring at me again,” Kathy said.

If you’re interested in breast reduction surgery or any other type of cosmetic surgery, visit the Parker Center’s website at dev.parkercenter.net to read actual patient stories, see before/after photos and watch animated videos of actual procedures. Whenever a foreign object is implanted into the body, whether it is an artificial hip joint or a breast implant, the body forms a biological lining around it called a capsule. This is a normal phenomenon, but if the capsule tightens and thickens, it can compress and distort a soft object like a breast implant. This abnormal phenomenon is called “capsular contracture;” it occurs in approximately 10% of breast augmentation surgeries performed today. In some patients, this occurs to a mild degree where the capsule and implant are minimally firm with no visible distortion. It may stay this way or progress to the point where the capsule and implant significantly harden, causing distortion of the implant and pain to the patient.

The cause of capsular contracture is thought by plastic surgery researchers to be multifactorial. In performing breast augmentations, Dr. Paul M. Parker of the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery employs a number of state of the art techniques, such as using the Keller Funnel for implant insertion, to minimize the risk of capsular contracture to his patients. Despite this, Dr. Parker reports that approximately 5 % of his patients sustain capsular contracture. Historically, capsular contractures have been treated by breast revision surgery whereby the capsule is removed and the implant re inserted. This requires an additional surgery and recovery. The recurrence rates after this procedure have been reported up to 50%.

Frustrated by the problem of capsular contracture and the need for revisional surgery, Dr. Parker learned about the Aspen Rehabilitation Ultrasound Treatment. The Aspen Ultrasound System uses a combination of therapeutic ultrasound and massage sessions to reduce capsular contracture. Instead of the traditional ultrasound wand, the Aspen ultrasound device uses a uniquely designed paddle system that covers the entire breast and provides deeper penetration of the ultrasonic energy. The energy softens the capsule and is followed by a special massage technique to help soften the capsule further. The Aspen ultrasound system has been uniquely designed by a physical therapist in Florida with an interest in capsular contracture. Over several years developing the Aspen Ultrasound System, his experience is that it is approximately 80% effective in significantly improving capsular contractures. The Aspen Ultrasound System is different from diagnostic ultrasound or the ultrasound used in ultrasonic assisted liposuction. This system has been shown to be safe in treating patients with capsular contracture.

By offering the Aspen Rehabilitation System to patients, Dr. Parker believes he and his team are offering them an excellent, non-surgical solution to capsular contracture. The Parker Center is the only plastic surgery practice in the northeast trained and authorized to treat capsular contracture with the new Aspen Rehabilitation Ultrasound Treatment. Dr. Parker’s commitment in seeking the best treatments for his patients, including new technologies and methods, has prompted many of the Parker Center’s patients to say “these are the most caring, committed and professional people I have ever encountered”.

“I’m always looking to increase my knowledge and skills with new technology and surgical advances. In addition to supplemental training, and learning about new methods, I believe it’s my responsibility to offer my patients the highest level of care, no matter what issue they present. The Aspen Rehabilitation System for capsular contraction is proving to be a successful, painless, and non-invasive treatment that can bring relief to women who have developed capsular contracture,” Dr. Parker stated.

“For the first time since my breast augmentation surgery, I have soft, natural looking breasts. The discomfort I have been living with is gone. I’m grateful that Dr. Parker is so innovative and always looking for new ways to help women,” said Kathy, a patient with capsular contracture of her left breast.

Male plastic surgery has been on the upswing for years, even during this tight economy.  Plastic Male plastic surgerysurgery is now commonplace and becoming rapidly more acceptable for men.  According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), male plastic surgery has increased 121% since 1997.

“I believe as baby boomers age—both men and women—they see themselves as healthy, active and fit.  They’re unhappy when their face or body doesn’t match up with how they feel, and they want to do something about it,” explained Dr. Parker. Therefore, for those considering male plastic surgery, New Jersey based Parker Center for Plastic Surgery is the ideal location.

It has also been speculated that social media and video communication, like Skype, make your appearance readily available, allowing people to judge you by your appearance instantaneously. In a tough economy with an aging population, competition for jobs becomes more intense.  Men are feeling the pressure to look more youthful and rested, thus the increase in plastic surgery for men. New Jersey surgeon, Dr. Parker, is willing to discuss men’s options with them.

The top procedures men undergo include facelifts, otoplasty (ear pinning), BOTOX and liposuction, followed by breast reduction for men, blepharoplasty, dermabrasion, laser hair removal, and laser treatment of leg veins.

“Our male patients seeking cosmetic enhancements tend to follow national trends, with the exception that I perform more male breast reduction surgery, male rhinoplasty, and chin implants,” said Dr. Parker.

Chin implant surgery is a relatively small procedure that can have a dramatic impact on a man’s appearance.  A strong chin and jawline is seen as the ideal masculine profile and a chin implant can give men the strong look they desire.  When performing male plastic surgery, New Jersey surgeon Dr. Paul M. Parker offers a life changing experience.

Liposuction is another very popular procedure with men. Nationwide, it is the #2 cosmetic surgical procedure performed and in 2010 over 23,000 men had liposuction. It can remove stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.

While all of our patients value Dr. Parker’s aesthetic of achieving a natural look with any cosmetic procedure, men are especially appreciative of this fact.  Our fully accredited and certified ambulatory surgery center, Surgiplex, LLC, not only provides the privacy our patients’ desire but also a safe, warm, relaxing and calming atmosphere.

Dr. Parker and the staff at the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery know that the decision to have cosmetic surgery is intensely private and they work diligently to create a warm, caring and supportive atmosphere for all of our patients.

Parker Center Staff PhotoLaura is a 49 year old married mother of two who has wanted to have breast reduction surgery since she finished breastfeeding her youngest child, 12 years ago. Laura started out a B cup but pregnancy and breastfeeding left her breasts larger each time.

“Before the surgery, I was a quadruple D cup. Just so big on top. My back was killing me, I couldn’t fit into clothes properly, and shopping was a nightmare, it was so frustrating,” explained Laura.
Laura considered having her breast reduction surgery several years ago, but after doing some research and realizing she wouldn’t be able to lift anything for a few weeks, she decided to put it off until her kids were older. Recently, Laura’s 17-year old daughter came to her desperate to have breast reduction.  New Jersey resident, Laura began researching surgeons and the procedure in earnest.

Laura did a lot of research on the internet, asked friends and family for recommendations and took a lot of time to educate herself on what’s involved in the procedure.   Laura and her daughter saw three surgeons plus Dr. Parker for a consultation.  After meeting with all four surgeons, Laura narrowed her selection to New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker, and another surgeon in Manhattan.

“When I met with Dr. Parker, he was really patient, took his time to explain everything and never made me feel silly or ignorant for asking.  One of the doctors I met was annoyed that I asked so many questions. I never felt that way with Dr. Parker and his staff.  They were just so warm and welcoming,” said Laura.

After Laura’s daughter had successful breast reduction surgery with Dr. Parker, Laura was ready to have the procedure herself.  As a busy mom with kids, it’s often difficult logistically to schedule surgery. Laura decided to have her surgery right before Thanksgiving when her kids would be off from school.  Her daughter also would have her driver’s license and be able to help out.

Paramus Plastic Surgeon Dr. Paul M. Parker“I had 100% confidence in Dr. Parker, especially after my daughter’s surgery went so well.  I had waited so long to have this done and I felt secure and certain that Dr. Parker was the right surgeon to solve my problem,” Laura said.

Laura’s surgery went smoothly and her recovery was “textbook.” Everything happened how Dr. Parker explained in almost the exact timeframe he said.  While Laura was sent home with detailed post-op instructions, she called the office a few times with questions and always had her questions answered patiently and willingly.

“I’m thrilled with the results of my surgery.  It’s beyond my expectations.  I love shopping now because I’m in proportion.  I can actually buy pretty and colorful bras in a regular store.  I can do Pilates without suffocating myself.  Doing everything is so much easier now. I really love my body,” Laura stated.

New Jersey breast reduction surgery can be done several different ways depending on the patient’s anatomy and goals.  For patients needing a minor reduction, liposuction alone can often achieve the desired result.  For a moderate reduction and lift, the “lollipop” or vertical breast reduction/ lift is used. This is what Dr. Parker performed on both Laura and her daughter.

This is the  most common breast reduction/ lift technique performed by Dr. Parker today because it results in the least amount of scarring, allows for a quicker recovery and gives the breast the best shape.  For patients who require a very significant reduction due to very large and/ or droopy breasts, a  traditional , “anchor” or “classic” reduction/  lift is necessary. It is unusual for Dr. Parker to perform this latter option today. He is able to minimize scarring and avoid a horizontal scar in the breast crease by using a “lollipop” reduction/ lift in many of these patients instead.

Dr. Paul M. Parker and the staff at the Parker Center have helped many women who’ve suffered with the pain and embarrassment of overly large breasts.  To learn more about breast reduction, New Jersey residents should visit our website dev.parkercenter.net or call 201-967-1212 to make an appointment for a consultation.

Joanne, 58 year old mother of two, decided it was time to get rid of her 36DDs. She researched on the Web and even though The Parker Center was not all that close to her, she decided it was worth the drive for New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker to evaluate her situation.

“My breasts have always bothered me. I am very petite so imagine trying to buy clothes with 36DDs,” says Joanne. “I could never wear the tops I wanted to.”

While she was in her consultation, Joanne and Dr. Parker decided she would also benefit from a lipoabdominoplasty with liposuction as well. After two pregnancies, the last one being a C-section, Joanne had sagging skin around the tummy. In April, she had all of her procedures performed at once. In November, she went on a family vacation to Puerto Rico.

“I haven’t worn a bikini since I was 18!”

“Of course, after the procedure, I had to buy new clothes because my breasts were so much smaller and shaplier, but I also had a flatter, contoured tummy,” she says. “So, I added a bikini to my list.”

She was quick to say it wasn’t a skimpy suit, but more of the sporty style. Nonetheless, she never thought she’d don a bikini again. It was almost like a dream- hanging out on the beach, enjoying her family and loving her new body.

After all of the years spent wearing unattractive support bras and being unable to wear form-fitting tops, Joanne can now wear the styles she likes and feel good about herself in them.

For women in New Jersey, breast reduction and lipoabdominoplasty are just two of the cosmetic procedures Dr. Parker performs in his state-of-the-art fully accredited Surgiplex, LLC. Just three short weeks ago, George, a 20 year old college student, had surgery to correct his gynecomastia.  Gynecomastia is the medical term for enlarged breast tissue in men.  It affects men of all ages and sizes and can be present in one or both sides of the chest.

George who has suffered with gynecomastia since puberty has always been very self-conscious about his chest.  He would never take his shirt off at pools or at the beach, in fact avoiding these types of get-togethers at times.

“I’m a really active type of guy, always running and working out.  No matter what I did, or how hard I worked in the gym, my chest never went down.  It was really frustrating,” explained George.

The thought of going back to college and his dorm life prompted George to do something about his chest.  He spoke to his mom about it and she suggested he go online to find out more about breast reduction for men. New Jersey-based The Parker Center for Plastic Surgery was one of the first to catch his eye.

Breast Reduction for Men New Jersey

“The Parker Center website was by far the best one I found.  There was tons of information for me including lots of photos, videos and testimonials.  I was really impressed,” George stated.

Even though George lives on Long Island and the Parker Center is in Northern New Jersey, George convinced his mom that they should make an appointment.  He also made appointments with two other local plastic surgeons on Long Island.

“After I went to the Parker Center, I was convinced.  The place was great, the people who work there were fantastic.  I told my mom that this was the place for me and she agreed.  We never even went to see any other plastic surgeon,” said George.

George went home two hours after his gynecomastia correction surgery with just a couple of small stitches near his armpits.  He wore the tight fitting vest that Dr. Parker sent him home in, as recommended and had a very comfortable recovery.  George really didn’t experience much pain and after about 10 days was ready to get back to his workouts but eased himself back into the gym slowly.  Now after three weeks he’s doing his regular workouts without any trouble.

Gynecomastia New Jersey

George is thrilled with the new flat contour of his chest.  It’s given him the physique that he spent so long in the gym trying to achieve.  Since he’s going back to college in a few weeks, George is making the most of his remaining summer by hitting the beach without a t-shirt to cover up.

“I’m so happy that I had this done, the results are amazing.  The pain was so minimal and results are so incredible.  It’s by far the best thing I’ve ever done.  It was well worth it,” explained George.

Inverted nipples are relatively common and can be both embarrassing and unsightly. They are caused by shortened or scarred breast tissue ducts that pull the nipple inward. The condition may arise from birth or external trauma, and most women don’t know about the possible treatment options. With inverted nipple surgery, Columbus Ohio‘s Dr. Jeffrey Donaldson, provides a simple and virtually painless correction.

Over the past half-century, many operations have been described for inverted nipples with varying success. Dr. Jeffery Donaldson has developed a minimally invasive technique that is quick and effective with less downtime. For inverted nipple surgery, Columbus, Ohio surgeon Dr. Donaldson, uses a microscopic scalpel that is usually reserved for delicate eye procedures. One side of the nipple is entered, and the underlying ducts are released so the nipple can return to a more anatomic position. A supportive stitch is then placed and the procedure is concluded. The results are instant and dramatic, and patients are typically thrilled!

Inverted nipples can be also be treated during other breast procedures, such as breast augmentation or lifting – just ask your surgeon to help create a plan that is customized to your needs and goals.

Dr. Donaldson is a board certified plastic surgeon with offices in Columbus, OH.

Gynecomastia, or enlargement of the male breasts is not unusual.  It can affect one breast or both and is relatively common in adolescent boys and older men.  Years of teasing and embarrassment led Josh to seek help for his condition.  In high school, he would never go to pool parties and avoided going to the beach with his friends.

“In high school you’re with your friends and whatever, but in college it’s hard to not take off your shirt when you’re living with 30 other guys on a floor.  You have to shower and change and share a bathroom.  I told my parents I didn’t want to go back to college if I had to live in a dorm,” says Josh.

Dr. Parker immediately understood his problem and made Josh feel instantly feel comfortable.  The staff at The Parker Center impressed Josh and his parents.

“They are the nicest people ever, they made me feel comfortable and explained how common this condition is and made me feel that I wasn’t the only one and that it could be taken care of.  They made me feel so good before the surgery,” said Josh.

Now four weeks after surgery Josh has already been to the beach without wearing a t-shirt all day.  He is also playing soccer and doing all his normal activities.

“I’m excited to go back to college.  I’m so happy, I’m speechless.  It’s changed my life, I can say that.  Maybe I just had mean friends, but now they can’t say or even think anything.  It was the best decision I ever made,” said Josh.

Josh and his family would recommend The Parker Center to any man contemplating this procedure to gain a flatter, firmer chest with improved contour and an improved self-confidence.

At 31, Gianny decided it was time to do something about her large sagging breasts. She made appointments with several plastic surgeons in NJ and was all set for her three consultations. But, in an unexpected twist of fate, Darlene walked in to the dentist office where Gianny works and shared her very recent experience at The Parker Center.
In fact, Darlene had a breast augmentation just the day before. “You would never know she had just had surgery,” said Gianny. “And she couldn’t say enough about how great Dr. Parker was, how great she felt and how wonderful the experience was. She really sold him to me.”
Darlene’s story was so compelling, Gianny called The Parker Center the very next day. “Just from the phone call, I knew this was the place for me,” she says. “Along with Darlene’s story and the feeling I got from the phone conversation, I went ahead and canceled the three other consultations I had.”
Because Gianny works in a doctor’s office, she understands the power of referrals and that is what she prefers when looking for medical care. “I’d rather go by referrals because there is no better measure of a doctor than what others think and their experiences.”
The consultation confirmed that New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker, was the right surgeon for her. “He was very professional and caring,” she says. “And, he makes you feel comfortable in what is a very uncomfortable situation for many.”
While they discussed her New Jersey breast lift, he recommended that she would need a reduction to get the results she wanted. When Gianny mentioned the fat under her chin and possible liposuction to correct it, he told her to give it time and that it should go away with diet and exercise.
“He was very honest about what I did and did not need and I appreciated that,” she says. “Another surgeon might have just gone ahead and done the liposuction too.”
While there were some differences in their experiences because they had different procedures, Gianny’s New Jersey breast lift and reduction met and exceeded her expectations. “I knew it was going to look good, but not this good!”
And she is passing her story along to others as well. Her mom will be visiting Dr. Parker in the future to have some work done as well.
“Dr. Parker is awesome,” she says. “The whole experience was wonderful!”
Oh, and Gianny ran into Darlene a few weeks after her procedure and Darlene is still singing Dr. Parker’s praises. There is really nothing better than a referral!
